Winter birds on the reservoirs

From November the dams across all three districts fill with water birds. You need less equipment and more patience than people expect.
Gangdua, Mukutmanipur, Khandarani, Baranti, Murguma: five reservoirs, three districts, one season. From November into February the water holds birds, and the best hour is the first one after light.
We are deliberately not publishing species lists yet. Bird lists compiled from other websites are one of the least reliable things in Indian travel writing, and we would rather record our own observations with dates than repeat someone else’s.
What we can say usefully is about behaviour. Stay on the bank, keep your outline low and still, and let the birds settle rather than walking toward them. A group that arrives loudly at a dam has already ended the morning for everyone else there.
Do not use recorded calls to draw birds in, and do not flush a flock for a flight photograph. It is common, it is visible in a hundred online galleries, and it is not something we will publish.
