Susunia sunset circuit
শুশুনিয়া সূর্যাস্ত রুট
Half a day from Oboshor: the hill in soft light, the stone carvers at work, and water at sunset.
-
15:00Depart OboshorStart
Late-afternoon start keeps you out of the day’s heat and puts you at the water for last light.
-
15:30Susunia Hill — base and spring60–75 minutes
Base area, spring and the inscription approach. Do not start the climb this late unless you know the descent.
-
16:45Stone carvers at the foot of the hill20–30 minutes
A working craft area. Ask before photographing; buy directly from the maker if you buy.
-
17:15Gangdua Dam45 minutes
Water with the Susunia ridge behind it. Stay on the visitor side; dam infrastructure is not a viewpoint.
-
18:15Return to OboshorFinish
Aim to be off unlit rural roads soon after dusk.
Why this order works
The hill faces the afternoon sun, so it reads better late; the carvers are still working at that hour; and the reservoir is the only stop that genuinely improves at sunset. Reversing the order puts you at the water in flat light.
Meal, fuel and toilet anchors
- Meal: eat at Oboshor before departure or on return — no reliable meal stop on the loop.
- Toilets: plan around Oboshor.
- Fuel: fill in Bankura town before starting.
Avoid if
- During or immediately after rain — the rock is dangerous and the light is gone anyway.
- If anyone in the group needs a guaranteed toilet mid-route.
- As a first outing after dark arrival; rural roads here are unlit.
